Homeworld Remastered Collection App Reviews

I loved playing both games when they originally came out. I could not be more thrilled the Remastered edition is available on Mac. After playing the game for several hours, I have not had an issues and am loving every minute of it! I could not be happier! You will not regret playing this game!

This game remains a nostalgic staple for some gamers, however, by modern standards, the core mechanics show their age. The primary of which is the dynamic difficulty. You will find that there is no difficulty slider or knob. Instead, the game decides to attack you with based on the size fo your fleet either at the beginning of the level or at the moment. This combined with the fact that the ships are balanced in a very “rock-paper-scissors” fashion makes the enemy able to obliterate you at a moment’s notice whenever the game deems it proper, necessary, or tangentially plot related, you will be decimated. This game is worth playing for the visuals, but attempt any single player campaigns at your own risk. They are pointless, infuriating, and should have remained footnotes in gaming history.

Having not played the original games, I need the tutorial. You proceed through the tutorials by clicking OK at various points when you are ready for the next step. But there is a bug in my copy where OK is “clicked” automatically and immediately … The three tutorials zip along like a fast-paced movie, even moving from one to the next without pause, without allowing me to learn or practice along the way. I have filed a ticket with Aspyr. This is 1.0, so I am hopeful of a fast fix. I can’t rate the game yet because I haven’t got there. So a 4 based on reputation; I don’t want to give a poor rating based solely on the tutorial bug. Edit: Aspyr informed me the way to deal with this problem is to turn on subtitles. In fact, that worked. I assume they will fix the bug in a later patch.

Loved the original Homeworld.This is a great remaster. Plays fine on my non-maxed out MacBook Air (mid 2013). Great trip down memory lane that still holds up well today. Had issues with the game not loading, but a quick trip to Aspyr support showed that some Mac users like myself were having issues with the loading due to their game center. Fixed via logging out of game center, rebooting macbook, logging back into game center and then relaunching the game. Started up no problems then.

Very good remake of one of the best space epic games. There is a learning curve, so recommend using the tutorial. No need to select OK during the audio prompting unless you want to stop the tutorial and examine everything on your own. Upper left corner Homeworld Icon, once selected gives you the main menu. Delete key toggles the on screen game options icons on and off. Space bar switches from detail view to strategic view. For those that have a track pad, 2-fingers drag, moves the screen up/down/side-to-side. The 2-finger click & hold, changes the vertical axis view, so you can look underneath or above (bascialy your right click and hold on a mouse). Hopefully this info helps if you are just getting into the game. Definitly worth buying if you are a fan of epic space battle games.

Thanks for bringing Homeworld to the Mac and to the App Store!! I love this series so much!!! I have the original Homeworld series and have had Windows on my mac just for Homeworld - now that can go!! Now I need Cataclysm. Any chance that is coming over too?

First of all, this is one of the best game series EVER. I’m so glad they remastered it and brought it to Mac for the first time. I wish they’d also do this for Homeworld: Cataclysm. Take my money please! Now, the only complaint I have on this v1.0.0 is that fleet formations are pretty severly messed up. Especially parade formation with the mothership. Hoping these get corrected in updates.

This game has been one of the defining games for me. Spent many a days trying to beat it when I was younger. Now its been made the way it was meant to be. Not any disappointments here just many hours of awesome gameplay.

Beautiful remastering of my favorite game of all time. Yes, I am biased. Yes, it is worth it. This is a very VERY neglected niche of a very neglected genre. The story telling, gameplay, and music have few equals. There is a certain sadness that is captured by the tone of this game, you empathize with the Kushan all the way through from the first game and onward. The stunning graphics dont even demand much from the hardware. Bravo, gearbox/aspyr!

Enough said, this is the best RTS game I have ever play! Thanks for reviving this classic into HD world!

Homeworld was the first video game I ever fell in love with. I thought I would never be able to relive this experenice. Thank you times a million!!!!

I feel like I’ve been reunited with an old friend. This game monopolized many hours of my time in the late 90’s. Fast forward 15 years and I now have something to distract me from my single serving friends on the plane and spare time in between. The beautiful graphics and immersive soundtrack are as amazing today as they were then. Gameplay, UI upgrades and the same engaging plot keep this game at the top of a very short list of my favorite games. It installed flawlessly on my 2014 MacBook Pro. I was up and running in minutes (once it downloaded). Make sure to play with a laptop table or on a surface other than your lap as the graphics make your computer work… (and get hot) LOVE LOVE LOVE this game.
